Education

The beginnings of educational and pedagogical activities at the Museum date back to the period following the Second World War, when the first museum exhibitions were organized. This created the need for greater involvement of professional staff in providing additional information to visitors about the exhibited items. Over time, the educational and pedagogical service evolved into the Department of Education, which today operates within the Department of Education and Library and makes a significant contribution to the overall work of the Museum.

Within the Department of Education, continuous promotion of the cultural, natural, and scientific values of museum collections is carried out. The department prepares and implements interactive educational programs, projects, lectures, and other forms of educational activities intended for various target groups, as well as the production of educational materials related to nature. The department also establishes cooperation with educational and professional institutions. The main goal is to expand knowledge and raise public awareness of the importance of nature for humanity.

Library

The National Institution Natural History Museum of the Republic of North Macedonia maintains a specialized library that performs complex tasks related to the acquisition, professional processing, access provision, preservation, protection, and digitization of library materials and collections.

The library holds a rich book collection, including books and periodicals in the fields of biology, geology, and paleontology, contributing to the advancement of professional and scientific research activities of the Museum staff.

As a result of exchange programs involving the Museum’s publications (Annales Musei Serbiae Meridionales, Acta Musei Macedonici Scientiarum Naturalium, Fragmenta Balcanica, Special Edition, Fauna of Macedonia, and Jubilee Proceedings), the library acquires a large number of titles, particularly serial publications. The exchange is carried out with 419 institutions domestically and internationally, and the majority of the annual acquisition of books, publications, and journals is obtained through exchange or donation.

Following the inventory revision conducted in 2019, the library holds 64,960 items, including 3,215 monographs and 1,190 periodical publications.
